Kansas halts sales of senior lifetime hunting, fishing licenses

(KOAM) - The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced the discontinuation of the 10-year combination hunting and fishing licenses for residents aged 65 to 74.

This decision follows the discovery that the statute authorizing the reduced-rate licenses had expired.

Commonly referred to as the Senior Lifetime Pass, the program allowed Kansas residents to purchase a combination hunting and fishing license for a reduced rate, with the benefit of not needing to purchase licenses once they turned 75.

The Senior Lifetime Pass was established in 2012 through Senate Bill 314 (K.S.A. 32-9,100), along with other discounted senior licenses. In 2023, the Kansas Legislature made other senior licenses permanent through House Bill 2039.

“The authorization for the Senior Lifetime Pass had lapsed, so we have halted sales,” said KDWP Acting Secretary Christopher Kennedy. “While all licenses were sold in good faith, the pass will no longer be available for purchase. However, Senior Lifetime Passes that have already been issued remain valid. We are exploring other options to provide discounted rates for seniors moving forward.”

While the 10-year Senior Lifetime Pass is no longer available, Kansas residents ages 65 to 74 can still purchase annual senior licenses at a significantly discounted rate. The options include:

    • Resident Senior Annual Hunting License: $15
    • Resident Senior Annual Fishing License: $15
    • Resident Senior Annual Combo (hunting and fishing): $25

Licenses can be purchased online at license.gooutdoorskansas.com, by phone at 1-833-587-2164, or at various locations across the state.
