Oregon voters could see Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the ballot with We The People

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Oregon voters could see independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the ballot in November after a petition received enough signatures to create a new minor political party in Oregon, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s office.

On Monday, the office announced the petition to create the We The People party garnered more than 45,000 signatures of the needed 29,294 signatures.

In order to become an official minor party in the state, We The People will need to create bylaws, organizational documents, and elect party leaders, explained Laura Kerns, communications director for the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office.

Now, Oregonians have the opportunity to register with the party ahead of the Nov. 5 general election.

According to Kennedy’s campaign website, We The People will appear on the ballot in three other states, including Hawaii, Mississippi, and North Carolina.

Describing the party platform, his campaign described a trip the independent candidate took to Philadelphia in October, where he “declared his independence from the ‘bankrupt two-party system,’” adding, “He did so with the National Constitution Center behind him and the words ‘We the people’ etched into the building by his side.”

According to his campaign, while at the site, Kennedy said, “Like the Founding Fathers declared their independence from the crown more than two centuries ago, today we declare our independence from the corrupting influence of Wall Street and corporate donors that have rigged our economy for the few at the expense of the many.”
