PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — If you’re a cheese lover ready to take things to the next level, an upcoming workshop may be just the thing for you.

The two-day cheesemaking workshop is being held in October by the Oregon State University’s Food Innovation Center in the Pearl District. It’s aimed at attracting both hobbyists and those wishing to break into the food industry.

Sarah Masoni is the OSU FIC’s director of product and process development. She told KOIN 6 News that as a cheese lover and expert herself, she has all the details about what to expect.

The workshop will cover everything from the state of the cheese industry in the Pacific Northwest to innovations in the cheesemaking process.

“We have lots of room for enthusiasts and some folks have learned to make cheese at these courses and started businesses,” Masoni said.

Those businesses have included a pair of local cheese companies, TMK Creamery in Canby and Briar Rose Creamery in Dundee .

“Both of those creamies have won awards for their cheeses,” Masoni said.

“So this course could be someone who wants to learn more about making cheese that might be already working in industry or it could be someone who just loves cheese and wants to make it in their home kitchen,” Masoni said.

The two-day course is happening Oct. 1-2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost is $650 and it is being held at 1207 NW Naito Parkway. Tickets and more information can be found on OSU’s website .

The OSU FIC will also hold an ice cream event in October , another example of how the facility wants to pass its vast food science knowledge onto others .
