    Police: California man recently released from prison points gun at woman in Newport

    PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – A man recently released from prison in California is in custody after a woman called police saying he had pointed a gun and threatened to kill her in Newport, Ore. over the weekend, officials announced Monday.

    Brandyone Salazar of Crescent City, Calif. was arrested Saturday afternoon after officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance near 536 SW Elizabeth Street. A woman in a nearby hotel lobby told police she had run away from Salazar and gotten help from the hotel staff.

    Authorities said Salazar was spotted trying to leave the area by walking toward the beach, where officers “lost sight of him” and began a search..

    Salazar was found fleeing the area and arrested nearly two hours later, according to Newport police. He faces charges of menacing, possession of a firearm as a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, and pointing a firearm at another.
