Beaverton consignment shop makes earth-conscious choices

BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — Emily Bostian is often the one who handpicks the clothing for men, women and children that are sold at Jolliffe’s consignment shop in Beaverton.

“Our niche is things that people are going to wear on an every day occasion. We have some special things but the focus is on things for every day life,” Bostian told KOIN 6 News. “People bring so much wonderful stuff, they do. And I benefit from the legacy of the consignment shop that was here before. A lot of those consignors are coming back, but everything you see is something that local people brought in.”

Local is a key component of Jolliffe’s, as well as making earth-conscious choices. The shop in the Progress Ridge Town Square in south Beaverton carries the middle name of her father, a lifelong conservationist who passed away in November 2023.

“This is my interpretation of his legacy,” she said. “We are supporting small businesses when we buy clothes that are second-hand, good quality and shopping locally-made things.”

Jolliffe’s features several products from local makers, everything from dog bandanas to laundry detergents to shaving kits. Consignors whose items sell get 40% of that sale or store credit, which includes an additional 10%.

Bostian said the community’s support has been solid.

“It’s a challenge being a small business owner and it’s challenging making the rent,” she said. “People in this area understand that it’s important to support small businesses. They get it.”
