PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Thousands of people lost power Saturday morning when a small plane crashed in a residential area of Fairview, sending debris in a wide area.

The crash happened around 10:20 a.m. when the plane went down near the Troutdale airport, officials with the Port of Portland said. On the way down, the plane hit a power pole before crashing into a townhome building.

That caused the power outage that left tens of thousands of Portland General Electric customers in the dark. However, by 3:52 p.m., PGE reported only 45 customers were still without power.

The number of outages and number of customers without power has fluctuated greatly since the crash. Emergency crews are at the sites and working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Authorities are still at the scene of the crash. Gresham Fire said that two people were on board the plane at the time of the crash and there is one person who lived in the townhomes that is still unaccounted for.
