HONOLULU (KHON2) — Melissa Jubane’s family living in Hawaii are sharing their devastation after she was found dead in Oregon, where she resides.

This comes just two weeks after Jubane tied the knot with an Oahu man on the North Shore of the island.

After a stressful and long three-day search for 32-year-old Melissa Jubane, a tragic announcement from Beaverton Police at 3 a.m. local time on Saturday.

In a social media post, BPD said:

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 10:18 AM, the Beaverton Police Department received a welfare check request for 32-year-old Melissa Jubane of Beaverton. Melissa, a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in SW Portland, had not reported for her morning shift, raising concerns among her coworkers, friends, and family.

Beaverton Police officers responded to Melissa’s residence at 1050 SW 160th Avenue, in Beaverton. Upon arrival, officers were met by staff from the apartment complex and conducted a search of Melissa’s apartment. Melissa was not present, and her absence without communication was deemed unusual and alarming.

Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off. Additionally, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information regarding her location.

At 3:12 PM on September 4th, Melissa was entered into national law enforcement databases as a missing person.

As a result of an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton was involved in her disappearance. Subsequently, Schubert was arrested this evening and charged with Melissa’s murder. Melissa Jubane’s remains have been recovered.

This is an active investigation. While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation. Tips related to this case are still welcome. Please call 503.526.2280 to provide information.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community members who have assisted with the search for Melissa. Our deepest condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends and coworkers .

Washington-native Jubane had been dating Bryan Llantero from Kalihi for a decade. Relatives told KHON2 the two would fly back and forth to see one another.

His mother says Melissa loved Hawaii. They first met at Mokuleia beach, they got engaged on Oahu in 2023, and got married here too on Aug. 24, 2024. They had a beautiful wedding ceremony at Waimea Valley with friends and family on Aug. 25.

Imelda Llantero told KHON2 that the newlyweds flew back to the Pacific Northwest on Aug. 31, and landed in the early morning hours of Sept. 1.

The couple spent Labor Day together on Monday, Sept. 2, and then Melissa drove back to the apartment in Beaverton, Oregon. Her mother-in-law said she would stay at the apartment because it was close to her work; while her son Bryan was staying in Bremerton, Washington with Melissa’s family.

She said Melissa did go to work on Sept. 3 but didn’t show up for her morning shift on Sept. 4.

The last time Bryan heard from Melissa was around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

When she didn’t show up for work, police were asked to do a welfare check at her apartment.

“There was no Melissa,” said Imelda Llantero. “Her bag, wallet, and keys are missing, and her car is still parked in the parking garage.”

According to Oregon station KOIN , Beaverton police said efforts by investigators and her family to contact her on her cell phone “were unsuccessful” since it appeared her phone was turned off.

Imelda Llantero said her son is completely destroyed and devastated, and has asked her to fly to Oregon to be by his side.

This is such sad, sad news. My heart goes out to this sweet young woman, who literally just got married. Robbed of her future. Prayers to her husband, loved ones, friends, and co-workers. Such a tragedy. We need the death penalty again. Some people choose to give up their right to live when they commit crimes like this. MONSTER !!!
