PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — The Vancouver Police Department has announced the passing of retired police K9 “Ivar.”

Ivar responded to more than 1,200 calls for service and attended numerous community events during his nearly eight-year career with the Vancouver Police Department.

“This is a sad loss, but we remember Ivar for his incredible career,” VPD said.

Ivar retired in 2021 and spent the remainder of his days living with his handler Sgt. Ryan Starbuck. The beloved K9 “crossed the rainbow bridge” on Sept. 7, VPD said.
