PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Beaverton police are alerting the public after fraudulent fundraising accounts claiming to support the family of Melissa Jubane were discovered on Thursday.

“The Beaverton Police Department is being made aware of fraudulent/nefarious fundraising accounts for Melissa Jubane’s Family,” a Beaverton police spokesperson said in a statement.

Jubane, a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, went missing on Wednesday, Sept. 4 and was found dead two days later.

Specific details of Jubane’s death remain unclear, but officials confirmed Tuesday that she was killed on the same day as her disappearance .

Bryce Schubert, the man accused of Jubane’s murder, was arrested the same day her remains were recovered by Beaverton police . Schubert made his first court appearance virtually on Monday and then was in-person on Tuesday .

The sanctioned GoFundMe , organized by Jubane’s brother Maverick, states the family is not only experiencing a sudden loss, but an “unexpected” financial burden of funeral costs, legal fees and other expenses.
