PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A Vancouver man has been accused of attempted murder after allegedly violating a restraining order and shooting his ex-girlfriend in the face while she was asleep in her truck, authorities said.

Blake Reed, 33, was arrested on Wednesday as part of a restraining order violation investigation. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 4:42 a.m. on reports of Blake inside a home and armed with a rifle.

“Responding deputies watched Reed attempt to leave the residence in a pickup truck and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, utilizing de-escalation tactics to safely place him under arrest,” the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

Investigators learned Blake was a former resident of the home but now has a restraining order prohibiting him from being within 250 feet of it. Reed was booked into the Clark County Jail on burglary and violation of a protection order.

The Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency then informed deputies that Reed’s would-be get-away truck actually belonged to a woman who was in a hospital being treated for a gunshot wound.

The investigation revealed the woman was formerly in a relationship with Reed.

“She described being asleep in her pickup truck when she was shot in the face through the driver’s window. The bullet penetrated her cheek and lodged in her jaw,” the sheriff’s office said. “The female received medical treatment and is expected to survive.”

Deputies said a search warrant of the pickup truck executed by detectives revealed evidence supporting the woman’s story, such as indicators that she had been “seated in the driver’s seat of the pickup while parked at the residence when she was shot through the driver’s side window.”

Surveillance video also showed Reed exiting the home at 3:05 a.m., “firing a single gunshot, and then returning inside the residence, all within seconds and with no verbal communication or confrontation occurring.”

Family members told deputies the 0.22 caliber rifle Reed allegedly used, which they later showed to investigators, was from inside the home.

On Thursday, the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office updated Reed’s charges to include first-degree attempted murder, gun theft and first-degree burglary.
