    Car goes into river near Sauvie Island early Friday

    PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A person was rescued Friday morning after their car went over a 50-foot embankment into a river near Sauvie Island.

    According to Portland Fire and Rescue, water and land-based crews responded after reports that a car had gone over the ledge and submerged in the water.

    Responding crews arrived at the scene where one person was already out of the car in shallow water.

    The driver was taken safely to a dock using a recreational tube where an ambulance responded for medical evaluation.

    A dog was also in the car at the time of the crash and was uninjured authorities said.
