PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A member of Camas City Council was arrested Friday after he allegedly threw a rock at a fisherman and threatened him with a handgun back in August.

The original incident happened on Aug. 31 when Camas police say officers responded to a reported disturbance with a firearm near the Washougal River Greenway.

Police say the incident originally began as a verbal argument between a fisherman and another man – later identified as 66-year-old John Svilarich – walking over the pedestrian footbridge.

The argument escalated to the point where Svilarich then threw an 8-inch rock from the bridge at the fisherman below, authorities say.

The argument continued along a nearby walking path when Svilarich allegedly aimed a handgun at the fisherman.

After a follow-up investigation by Camas police, Svilarich was arrested Friday on charges of reckless endangerment and aiming/discharging a firearm, but was later released.

Authorities say the handgun was surrendered to police.

    The investigation is ongoing.
