Portland pizzeria still one of the ‘best in the world,’ but ranking changes

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Mamma Mia! Ken’s Artisan Pizza was once again named one of the best pizzerias in the world, but international pizza critics have put the local favorite in a lower spot in its overall rankings.

The Italian eaters guide 50 Top Pizza has released its 2024 annual rankings, placing Ken’s Artisan Pizza as the 27th best pizzeria in the entire world.

“In recent years, Portland has become one of the most interesting and lively cities in the American pizza scene, and certainly thanks to this pizzeria as well,” 50 Top Pizza wrote.

In 2023, 50 Top Pizza named Ken’s Artisan Pizza the 18th-best pizzeria in the world . Although Ken’s fell nine spots in the rankings, the owners announced on social media that they are honored to make the list.

“We’re beyond thrilled to be ranked among the top 100 pizzerias in the world by 50 Top Pizza,” Ken’s wrote on Facebook.⁠ “… This incredible honor is a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team, who work tirelessly to make every pizza and dining experience unforgettable.”

The publication also ranked Ken’s as the fifth-best pizzeria in the U.S. 50 Top Pizza ranked the top five U.S. pizzerias in the following order:

1. Una Pizza Napoletana – New York
2. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – San Francisco
3. Pizzeria Beddia – Philadelphia
4. Ribalta – New York
5. Ken’s Artisan Pizza – Portland

“Ken’s true great merit is the taste for craftsmanship, for the taste of things, which must be ‘real,’  50 Top Pizza’s review reads. “The style of the pizza is inspired by Neapolitan pizza, reinterpreted to be immediately understandable to the American palate, and the final result is truly remarkable.”

50 Top Pizza also praised Ken’s for its quality of ingredients and service.

“Another important aspect of this restaurant is the attention to the quality and seasonality of the ingredients, with a completely vegetarian menu,” the review continues. “The dough is fragrant, light, and with a crunchy bite that makes it very enjoyable. The high-quality gelato is a good idea to finish your meal. The drink menu is of good quality, especially when it comes to cocktails. The service is very attentive to the customer and prices are average for the city.”
