Officials identify death in SW Pacific Highway crash near Sherwood

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — One person was killed and one person was seriously injured in a crash that closed all lanes on Pacific Highway 99W near Sherwood on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The person who died was identified as 72-year-old Sherwood resident Robert Blomquist, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

By 6:30 p.m., all lanes of Pacific Highway 99W were reopened following the crash, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

The crash involved a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles on the southbound side of Pacific Highway near the wildlife refuge north of Sherwood at milepost 14, according to Sherwood police.

Before the crash, Blomquist was headed north on Highway 99, officials said. The collision happened just past Southwest Langer Farms Parkway.

“[Blomquist] lost control of the 2018 Audi Q7 he was driving and crossed over the median into oncoming Southbound traffic, where he crashed head-on into a box truck and did not survive,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. ‘The box truck then crashed into a dump truck, also going southbound.”

The driver of the box truck was seriously injured, taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said. No one else was injured.

A medical examiner will make a determination as to the cause and manner of Blomquist’s death.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to speak with Washington County Sheriff’s investigators.
