PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – As the days turn colder, you may be thinking of new ways to stay warm through the fall and winter. Fortunately, the Bagby Hot Springs will be around to heat things up.

The natural hot springs and campground in Mt. Hood National Forest are set to reopen on Saturday, Sept. 21 following a closure that began in early August due to the Sandstone Fire. The grounds are expected to be open at 8 a.m.

The U.S. Forest Service said the Sandstone Fire spread to 1.5 miles north of the Bagby Trailhead, but the Bagby Hot Springs was not affected by the fire. As of Thursday, the fire had already been 75% contained.

“There will still be a fire closure area around Sandstone Fire, but Forest Road 70 will reopen on Saturday morning,” forest service officials said. “Please be aware that there may still be fire or road crews on the travel routes and drive cautiously.”

Closure areas near the Bagby campground can be found on the U.S. Forest Service website .

The most recent closure happened shortly after the hot springs re-opened for the first time in four years back in May 2024 .

The site runs on a first-come, first-served basis and accepts cash or check. No public nudity is allowed, but officials encourage patrons to share tubs with other visitors. If there is a wait for access to the tubs, a 30-minute limit is recommended.
