    Weekend events guide: Portland Retro Gaming Expo, Dogtoberfest, Hot Wheels Live

    PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — There’s always something to do in the Rose City.

    Here are KOIN 6’s picks for weekend events.

    New Balance, Aminé collaborate on shoe inspired by Benson High’s radio program

    Portland Retro Gaming Expo

    When: Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29 at various times
    Where: Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232

    This year’s Portland Retro Gaming Expo is expected to be the biggest yet. Hundreds of vendors and more than 50 guests, including Daniel Pesina — who portrayed multiple characters in the Mortal Kombat game.

    Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Glow Party

    When: Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
    Where: Moda Center, 1 N Center Ct St, Portland, OR 97227

    Family Entertainment Live is presenting this event that brings Hot Wheels Monster Trucks like the Bone Shaker and Gunkster to life. There’s also a pre-show party for fans who want to see some of the trucks up close.

    Zootoberfest

    When: Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    Where: Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Rd, Portland, OR 97221

    The Oregon Zoo is inviting almost 50 Pacific-Northwest-based cider and beer brands to swerve seasonal drinks at Zootoberfest. One $60 ticket for the 21+ event includes 10 tasting tickets and a souvenir mug.

    Positively Portland

    Dogtoberfest

    When: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Where: Lucky Labrador Brew Pub, 915 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214

    Bring your fur babies to Lucky Labrador Brew Pub for the 30th anniversary of Dogtoberfest. This year, the event doubles as a dog wash. Any donations will benefit the DoveLewis Blood Bank.

    The Charm of Chinese Strings

    When: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    Where: Lan Su Chinese Garden, 239 NW Everett St, Portland, OR 97209

    Lan Su Chinese Garden will host this live performance featuring four esteemed musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music in China, “set against a backdrop of beautiful landscapes and lanterns.” General admission tickets cost $45, and terrace seating costs $54.

    Max Amini Live in Portland!

    When: Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
    Where: Newmark Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205

    Comedian Max Amini started his career in Los Angeles in 2002. He now has a large fanbase as the host of the “Wild Truths” podcast, and as a touring act. “Thrilling audiences as a headline act, Max is armed with a fresh array of comedy delights for this extraordinary Portland event that will leave you in stitches and rolling in the aisles!” event organizers said.

    Festa Italiana

    When: Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    Where: Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland, OR 97202

    Honor Italian American culture with food, wine and music at Oaks Amusement Park, which also has family-friendly activities planned through the day. Tony LaStella and The Goombas are set to headline the event.
