PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A man accused of murder was arrested in connection to a deadly shooting in the Lloyd District earlier this month, authorities said.

Police said 31-year-old Estabon Ramirez had been sought with an arrest warrant, with an informational flyer about him circulating among homicide detectives.

Ramirez is accused of murdering 44-year-old Anthony Garland in the shooting that happened on Sept. 10. When police responded near Northeast Grand Avenue and Northeast 6th Avenue in the early evening, Garland was already dead, officials said.

On Friday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m., a Portland police officer was on patrol and on the lookout for a different suspect in an unrelated crime when he recognized Ramirez near Northwest 14th Avenue and Northwest Couch Street.

“The officer requested assistance and numerous officers responded,” the Portland Police Bureau said in a release. “After quickly developing a custody plan, they arrested the suspect, who was transported to the Detective Division.”

Ramirez was eventually transferred to the Multnomah County Detention Center and faces charges that include second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and four other unrelated charges. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Portland police.
