PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Calling lovers of all things spooky! The city of St. Helens will once again be transformed into a Halloween wonderland for a whole month starting this Saturday.

The Spirit of Halloweentown , an annual tradition which began in 1998, has since grown into one of the most popular Halloween festivals in the U.S. Especially since the town served as the backdrop for Disney Channel’s “Halloweentown.”

The iconic pumpkin featured in the film is even located at the Columbia County Courthouse plaza, and lit for the first time on the first Saturday of October.

Throughout the month, however, the town will present performances, host a haunted house, feature daily costume contests, an alien meet-and-greet and much more.

Further, among the celebrities making appearances are J. Paul Zimmerman, who played Dylan in “Halloweentown,” as well as Kathy Najimy, best known as Mary Sanderson in the “Hocus Pocus” films. Both will be visiting on Oct. 12 and 13.

While the festival is free to walk around, tickets are required for certain activities. Adult passes are $40 online and $45 at the door. Kids’ passes (12 and under) are $20 online and $25 at the door.

“Spirit of Halloweentown has grown into a beloved tradition, not just for the St. Helens community, but for Halloween and movie fans from all over the country,” says Brandon Treadway with Treadway Events, the event planning company for the event. “We’re excited to be part of this magical event and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another unforgettable celebration.”
