PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Police rushed to Arcadia Beach Friday evening after a woman was hit by a projectile, authorities said.

According to Oregon State Police, officers responded after receiving a call from a woman who said she had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers said they found the woman on the beach and she was taken back to the nearby recreation area, where she declined medical transport, instead taking herself to Providence Seaside Hospital later.

Officers said they searched the shoreline as well as the nearby parking lot along Highway 101, talking with numerous beachgoers and drivers, but they didn’t learn anything about the shooting.

Later in the evening, authorities said they confirmed that the woman had been hit by a projectile, which caused a minor injury and it was not removed and has not been identified.

Police said it is unknown what caused the injury and it is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Oregon State Police.
