PORTLAND, Ore. ( KO I N ) — A man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after strangling his partner with a dog leash at a Salem park, authorities said.

A jury found 46-year-old Travis Porter Bryant, formerly of Dallas, Oregon, guilty of attempted murder and other charges after a two-day trial concluded earlier this week, the Polk County District Attorney’s Office said.

A Polk County circuit judge handed down the 100-month sentence.

The Salem Police Department initially investigated the strangulation incident, which happened at Wallace Marine Park in Salem on the evening of Aug. 16 earlier this year.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Bryant was also found guilty of second-degree assault, strangulation, assaulting a public safety officer and resisting arrest.

Bryant’s verdict falls under Oregon’s Measure 11 minimum sentencing laws, making it mandatory for him to serve at least 90 months if he is approved for any kind of early release or sentence reduction, officials said. He was also sentenced to three years of post-prison supervision.
