PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — An intersection in Vancouver is closed Thursday morning after a natural gas line was hit, authorities said.

According to Vancouver Fire, a 4-inch main natural gas line was hit at the intersection of Northeast 112th Avenue and Northeast 18th Street.

Officials are warning that due to the size of the leak and the direction of the wind, people in the area might smell natural gas.

Crews are on the scene working to fix the issue, but officials advise people to take a different route to avoid the incident.

The intersection is expected to be closed for an unknown amount of time, authorities said.
