PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A former Douglas County corrections deputy who allegedly admitted to embezzling more than $110,000 from his law enforcement union, was sentenced to two years in prison plus two years of probation on Oct. 4.

During a 2023 investigation, Peter Collins confessed to stealing the funds from the Douglas County Law Enforcement Association between 2016 and 2023, while he was serving as the union treasurer, the Roseburg Police Department said.

“On Dec. 12, Collins met with me at the police department,” an affidavit provided by Roseburg PD Detective Todd Spingath reads. “Post Miranda, Collins admitted to embezzling money and falsifying the ledgers from the [Douglas County Law Enforcement Association] over the span of approximately seven years.”

Despite an alleged confession, the disgraced corrections officer was able to cut a deal with the District Attorney’s Office by pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated theft in the first degree. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors dismissed 19 of the 21 charges brought against Collins. The dismissed charges included computer crime, fraudulent use of a credit card and falsifying business records.
