PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Get the heavy comforter out of the closet. Dust off the heater. Portland’s overnight temperatures will sink into the 40s this week.

KOIN 6 Meteorologist Josh Cozart predicts that overnight temperatures could hit a low of 42 degrees between late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

“Some of Portland’s morning low temperatures Thursday into Friday morning could be some of the coldest air we’ve seen since May,” Cozart said.

Rain and mountain snow also return to the region this week as the fall season develops. The first big snowstorm of the season is expected this week, with nearly a foot of snow forecast for mountain areas above 5,000 feet of elevation.
