REEDS SPRING, Mo. – The former Mayor of Reeds Spring resigned suddenly in January 2024, but the city is just now revealing the reason why in a press release on May 3.

Former Reeds Spring Mayor Robert Chamberlin resigned in a special meeting just two months before he was up for re-election. The city did not provide a reason for his resignation, but rumors spread about an investigation into the mayor’s activities.

Now, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has officially released the results of an investigation into Robert Chamberlin. Chamberlin has been charged with felony stealing and ethics violation by an elected official.

According to the probable cause statement, Chamberlin came under suspicion when an individual came forward with a list detailing purchases made with city funds that they believed had been used for Chamberlin’s personal use.

These purchases included lumber and car parts. The purchase of a 2011 Chevy maintenance truck valued at $17,149 from Chamberlin by the city was also called into question by investigators, according to a probable cause statement from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Minutes of a city meeting indicate Chamberlin said it was a “one-owner” vehicle. Investigators said state records show the truck had changed hands five times before Chamberlin bought it for $15,500 and then sold it to the city four months later for $17,149.

He also failed to provide the city with proof of an extended warranty valued at $1,850 on the vehicle, court documents state.

A press release from the City of Reeds Spring said they hope to move forward into a brighter future for Reeds Spring. The city said they hope residents can now understand the need for confidentiality during the investigation.

Chamberlin’s bond was set for $10,000.

they better ck the status of city of reeds spring. there are 5 locations that are operating as 4th class cities that never incorporated ated as 4th class city. galena reeds spring Anderson Seligman and duniwig. they all had same lawyer. I filed a complaint against galena ",city cop' for assault and excessive force ect ect ect with state attny Gen office. they can't prosecute because galena isn't a city. he was only security subcontracted out thru galena municipal Corp. this privately owned Corp furnishes services a real city wud furnish. for a monthly fee above the cost of services. no city no city Marshall. no city no mayor. start with that city lawyer. when I told the judge about these 5 locations lawyer tried to deny knowledge. when deputy led me out of courtroom the deputies had city lawyer on the floor.
