Ash Grove tops Bernie, advances to championship game

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State High School Activities Association will crown spring softball champions Tuesday at the Killian Complex in Springfield.

In Class One Monday, the Ash Grove Pirates squared off with Bernie in one state semifinal.

The Pirates rolled into the semis on a four game winning streak.

Ash Grove meeting Bernie from the bootheel, the Mules have won 13 in a row.

The Pirates and Mules exchanged runs through the first three innings.

But then Ash Grove’s pitching and defense slammed the door, and the offense took advantage.

The Pirates scored 17 runs and beat Bernie 17-4.

And Ash Grove will advance to play Concordia in the state championship game Friday at 1:15 p.m.
