Heartbreaking championship loss for Ash Grove

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Ash Grove Pirates stepped onto the softball diamond Tuesday afternoon looking for their first ever state championship.

Ash Grove facing Concordia in the Class 1 title game.

The Orioles rode a 26-game winning streak into the championship game.

Concordia scratched for a run in the first inning on a fielder’s choice.

The rest of the game fell to the Pirate and Oriole starting pitchers.

Ash Grove’s Meagan Hawkins went the distance with six strikeouts.

Concordia’s Olivia Hemme went the distance with 12 strikeouts.

And the Orioles win the state championship 1-0.
