BOONE COUNTY, Ark. — “There are good people in the world and during these difficult times, there are good people who are offering to help and for that, we are very thankful.”

For Billy Joe and Deena Roberts, it was an easy decision to go and help their neighbors after tornadoes caused extensive damage in northern Arkansas.

“Everybody pulls together to help each other. Our church, The Bellefonte Church of Christ, just brought some food and drinks for us, and it’s just people helping people,” Deena said.

But before they could go lend a helping hand, the family had to take care of their property first.

“We didn’t have any damage to our home but we had some damage to her car and I lost a barn,” Billy Joe said.

Boone County Sheriff Roy Martin said his phone had been ringing non-stop since 2:30 on Sunday morning as reports of damage began to come in, including at the Boone County Jail.

“We got quite a bit of damage here at the jail. The prisoners are all good and we are keeping them fed,” Sheriff Martin said.

Sheriff Martin says there are currently 22 structures that have been destroyed in Boone County. One person was killed and one child was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital in Little Rock with injuries.
