ST. JOSEPH, Mo–For the last month or so, St. Joseph has hosted Chiefs Kingdom for training camp.

Thousands of fans descend on Missouri Western nearly everyday to watch the Chiefs practice for the upcoming season.

But all that ended Thursday as the team broke camp.

The Chiefs are one of only eight NFL teams that travels away from their home facility for training camp.

And traditionally the Chiefs have hosted Military Appreciation Day for the last workout.

The soldiers and airmen from various forts and bases in Chiefs Kingdom have a chance to watch practice.

Afterwards they’re invited onto the field to meet the players.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes loves going to camp in St. Joe.

And says this 14th year was another successful camp.

“I thought it was a competitive camp. I think that was the best thing. More than just standouts, there was days when you didn’t know if the offense or defense was gonna win and that’s when it’s a great camp. You want to compete. There’s day the defense gets after us, there’s days we get the better of them. and so that was the most positive thing I took from camp. Obviously players have days, but the competitive nature of camp was the best part about it,” said Mahomes.
