    Houston Police Department resolve standoff in downtown area

    UPDATE 8/17/24 – The Houston Police Department (HPD) says they have peacefully resolved the situation downtown Friday night.

    HPD says they were checking the well-being of a suspect at a home on Grand Avenue and he was initially refusing to speak to officers. Police established a perimeter in the area because of the circumstances of the incident and for the safety of nearby citizens.

    Police were able to negotiate with the subject and talk him out of the home for medical treatment.

    UPDATE 9:35 p.m. – The situation downtown has been handled peacefully.

    HOUSTON, Mo. — The Houston Police Department has asked the public to avoid the area near downtown due to a currently undisclosed reason.

    According to the City of Houston Missouri Facebook, the police are working a scene and have blocked off the downtown area.

    OzarksFirst has called the Houston Police Department but has not received a response yet.
