Monday, August 19 Forecast: Another fall preview

    By Jamie Warriner,

We started the day with rain skirting across Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. We’re ending the day with mostly clear skies across the region. This was our last shot at measurable rainfall for the next week as a dry pattern sets in. Something else we won’t find much of this week is heat.

Drier, mild air flowing in on east to northeast winds will make for another long stretch of unusually mild summer weather. The drier air will not only make it feel more comfortable but also make for cool August mornings throughout the week. Afternoon highs will also run 5 to 10° cooler than normal through Thursday.

The drier air will stymy rain chances, but there will still be some waves of clouds as pockets of upper-level energy spill over the summer ridge to the west.

The summer ridge will reassert itself over the region this weekend. This will bring 90° highs back to the Ozarks. The humidity though may not return as quickly as the heat.

If you’re looking for rain, it will be tough to find in this pattern. A wetter pattern may return for a few days near the middle of next week before we dry it out and cool it off again.
