Tuesday, August 20 Forecast: Locked in a mild mode through Thursday

    By Jamie Warriner,

Fall air is flowin’ in again. The mild temperatures got a boost from some passing cloud cover Tuesday. This kept afternoon highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. We’ve got a couple of more days of this before summer heat returns.

Tonight will feature starry skies and bright moonshine. Temperatures will slip a few degrees lower than this morning’s lows, generally in the upper 50s and low 60s.

The highway for cloud makers continues to sit atop the area with another wave of clouds spilling through Wednesday, especially east of Hwy. 65. This will make for another mild afternoon with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.

The steady flow of air out of the east will continue to dry out the air with our coolest morning out of the stretch expected Thursday. Readings will dip into the mid to upper 50s. That might make you want to grab a jacket early in the day. Temperatures will warm back into the upper 70s and low 80s Thursday afternoon with highs possibly hampered a bit by another wave of passing clouds.

The heat will build back in by the weekend along with a bit of humidity. Expect highs in the low to mid 90s this weekend with rain chances remaining near zero. There may be a chance for some rain to slip around the summer ridge building in, but these rain chances will tend to be off to the northeast, closer to the St. Louis area.

Hot and humid weather will hang around into the first half of next week with rain chances remaining very low. Rain opportunities will increase with a cold front that’s expected to arrive sometime Wednesday to Thursday of next week. This will also send the summer heat packing again.
