SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Robberson Elementary School building is now for sale after the Springfield Board of Education declared it a ‘surplus’ property.

At the meeting was Trey Walton, a leader at The Covenant of Grace Christian Center, who says they would like to purchase the property with hopes of turning it into a way to help the community.

“We see a need; our board sees a need, and we’re going to tackle that need,” says Walton.

Springfield Police say they are increasing speeding enforcement

With this new building, Walton hopes to turn it into a community center that will provide people in need with programs and services. This would include meals, help with classes or gaining G.E.Ds, and just giving people a place to go.

“If we have quality programs that are in place that will help people become better, people become positive people, people that want to thrive, the crime will go down, the homelessness will go down,” says Walton.

As of now, a timeline for the sale or transition of the Robberson Elementary building has not been set.
