Missouri Department of Conservation rehabilitates bald eagle full of raccoon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A bald eagle was captured, rehabilitated and released back into the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Park.

According to a Facebook post from the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, the eagle originally reported to be injured was actually too fat to fly due to eating a raccoon.

X-rays, provided by Dickerson Park Zoo, show the outline of what the Department of Conservation suspects is raccoon roadkill. Its release was a coordinated effort between NPS, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Dickerson Park Zoo.

Though introducing wildlife into the park is illegal, the eagle was released near where it was found and in compliance with federal and state laws.
