The weekly drought monitor is showing dry conditions extending into Missouri and part of Arkansas. August has brought little rain to the Ozarks, and the ground is drying out as a result.

With the new update, Western Missouri counties are now abnormally dry, while parts of McDonald, Newton, Jasper, and Barry counties have upgrade to moderately dry conditions.

In the past month, dry conditions in Arkansas have improved.

On average, August is the dryest summer month. The summer of 2024 is proving to be that way. West Plains, Missouri is the only county that is registering a surplus of rain. West Plains had a three-day period where they received 5.97″ of rain on August 14-16, 2024.
