Monday, August 26 Forecast: Toasty temperatures through Thursday

We’re less than a week away from September, but there’s still plenty of time for summer heat and humidity. And, boy did we get another dose today. Afternoon highs were in the mid-90s with heat indices topping 100°. The summer sizzle will continue to scorch the area until a series of cold fronts usher in milder temperatures.

Tonight will be warm and quiet with a muggy start to the day Tuesday.

Heat Advisories remain in effect for areas closer to Lake of the Ozarks. This is where heat indices will top 105°. We won’t be far off that mark further southwest. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s with heat indices in the upper 90s and low 100s. There is a chance for a few spotty late afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

We’ll remain in “wash and repeat” mode through Wednesday and Thursday. The nights will be muggy and warm with hot and humid afternoons. A few spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible from time to time, but most areas won’t see rain.

Rain chances will perk up by Friday as a trough amplifies across the East. A series of cold fronts will drop into the area Friday through Sunday. This will boost rain chances, especially Friday. The risk for rain will tend to shift further south Saturday and Sunday as drier air tries to build in from the north. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler with highs in the mid-80s.

Low humidity and mild air will overspread the area by Labor Day. It looks like we’re in for milder-than-normal conditions for the first week of September.
