Carthage woman dies in rural Jasper County crash

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — A woman from Carthage is dead after a crash near Avilla on Aug. 23.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash happened at around 10 a.m. on County Road 80, six miles north of Avilla.

MSHP says that a 2010 Ford Edge SUV pulled into the path of a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan. The driver of the SUV, 22-year-old Destiny A. Jennings, died at the scene of the crash.

The other occupants in Jennings’ vehicle included a 23-year-old man who suffered serious injuries and an infant boy and a one-year-old girl, neither of whom were seriously hurt. All three were transported to area hospitals.

The four occupants of the minivan suffered injuries ranging from serious to minor, and were also taken to local hospitals.

This is MSHP Troop D’s 68th fatality for 2024.
