We made it! The streak of toasty temperatures has come to a close with rain and clouds Friday bringing temperatures down. We’ll then slip into an early fall pattern as we move into September.

Heading into tonight, we’ll be enjoying another quiet summer night. Meanwhile, a band of showers and thunderstorms will be marching in from the northwest.

Those storms are lined up along a cold front that will likely push a boundary into the area by Friday morning. Some clouds and showers are possible with the boundary during the morning, but the real impact will be felt later in the day.

The boundary will serve as a focus for scattered afternoon and evening storms. Lightning and gusty winds can be expected along with soaking downpours. Generally, less than half an inch is expected, but a few spots could see 1 to 3″ which could lead to localized flooding.

Friday night football crowds in southern Missouri will likely have to contend with some rain and lightning.

The risk for storms will spill over into the weekend with the first cold front of the weekend stalling in the area. This will make for a rather cloudy Saturday with scattered showers and thunderstorms near and south of I-44. The coverage of wet weather will tend to slowly shift south during the afternoon as drier air tries to filter in from the north.

Another cold front arrives Sunday. This will shove any lingering rain south of the state line. The day looks bright and warm north of the state line with afternoon highs in the mid-80s.

Labor Day will be mild and dry with a mix of sun and clouds.

The early fall feel will continue as we head back to work Tuesday. The overall pattern next week has a mild and dry look with temperatures slowly warming back up by week’s end.
