Tuesday, September 3 forecast: A little late summer heat ahead of a big taste of fall weather

Back to work weather came with clouds and another dose of fall temperatures. The fall feel will give way to a late summer feel over the next few days. But, this won’t be the big headline in the forecast. The first big fall blast of the season is what will grab people’s attention.

In the short term, we’re still tracking today’s cloud maker. It looks like that’s all the storm will be able to muster thanks to a wall of dry air in our area. The cloud cover will thin out from the northwest by morning over most of the area opening the door to morning lows in the 50s.

A brief spell of warmer weather will follow. Wednesday’s warmth will come with sunny skies, but a little moisture working in from the southeast will lead to some morning fog Thursday. Clouds will try to bubble up into a few isolated showers over Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas Thursday afternoon. The afternoon will also come with more of a late-summer feel with a little humidity joining the warmer afternoon highs.

Rain chances perk up Friday with a cold front, but chances will remain slim. The day will start with clouds and some light shower activity. This won’t be an all day affair with skies becoming sunny during the afternoon as dry air builds in behind the cold front. A beautiful Friday evening will follow, good news after weather delays that hit area football games last Friday.

Ideal weekend weather will be perfect for outdoor activities like camping. This will be our first real blast of fall air this season. Morning lows will be in the 50s with the door open to some 40s Sunday morning. Highs will be in the 70s, and that’s with sunny skies.

The pattern remains nice into next week with no real sign of widespread rainfall. Morning lows will remain cool, but the afternoons will be getting gradually warmer with more of a late summer feel again later in the week. Also, we may not be done with 90° highs. There are signs that highs in the 90s may return during the third week of the month.
