Man sentenced in 2021 Lake of the Ozarks shooting death

CAMDENTON, Mo. — One of two men charged with murder in a shooting death at a Lake of the Ozarks bar in 2021 has been sentenced.

Chad Tariq Brewer of Jefferson City had been accused in the death of Vonza Watson at Lazy Gators bar in 2021. Online court records show Brewer had pleaded not guilty to all charges in 2022, but was back in court on Sept. 5, 2024 and changed his plea to guilty.

A Camden County judge sentenced Brewer to 15 years in prison.

Brewer and his co-defendant, Craig Hawkins, were allegedly seen on security footage, which showed Watson being beaten by Hawkins before being shot by Brewer.

According to documents, investigators found a fight had occurred shortly before the shooting.

Hawkins’s next court date is Nov. 6, 2024.
