MARSHFIELD, Mo. – In honor of the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the city of Marshfield will be holding the 4th annual “Marshfield Remembers” memorial at Patriot Park. The memorial will involve both day and nighttime events, through the evening of Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

“This memorial and tribute are designed to let those who experienced 9/11 come together and reflect on the events of that day, honor the lives lost and the families left behind, and educate future generations so that we truly “never forget,” says Marshfield Mayor Natalie McNish.

A memorial display of 2,977 flags has been placed at Patriot Park (1490 N. Elm St.) in Marshfield. The 2,977 flags represent the nearly 3,000 lives that were taken during the 9/11 attacks.

A little after sunset on Wednesday, a tribute will light up the night sky with two towers of light shining for 102 minutes, followed by the playing of Taps at 9:45p.m. The 102 minutes represents the timespan from the first impact of American Airlines Flight 11 at 8:46 a.m. to the collapse of the North Tower at 10:28 a.m.

“We hope people from all across southwest Missouri will join Marshfield to remember not only the tragedy, but also the coming together of Americans as neighbors in the days and months following the horrific events of that day.”

The memorial will open at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Patriot Park is located at 1490 N. Elm St, Marshfield, Mo.
