Osceola woman sentenced for 20-year-long bank fraud scheme

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman from Osceola was sentenced in federal court yesterday for defrauding over $1 million from a bank she worked at for more than two decades.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, 60-year-old Stacia Wilson was sentenced on Sept. 12 to three years and 10 months in federal prison without parole. She was also ordered to pay $1,435,491.05 in restitution.

Wilson pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud on May 9, 2024. The release states she admitted that while she was employed as a vice president of St. Clair County State Bank in Osceola, she defrauded the bank by stealing customers’ identifying information and opening false loans under their names. The loan funds were deposited in Wilson’s personal accounts.

The scheme, which lasted over 20 years from 2000 until it was discovered in December 2022, resulted in many fraudulent loans and a $1.5 million loss to the bank.
