Monday was a cloudy day with rain continuing through the day across the southeast. Some spots in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas have measured over an inch with recent rain.

Morning drivers may encounter pockets of fog that at times could be dense. After the fog dissipates, today will be mostly sunny with a few clouds later in the day. Temperatures will respond by warming to the mid to upper 80s this afternoon. It will also feel a little muggy.

Sky conditions look mostly clear for this evening’s partial lunar eclipse. If you’re interested in catching the eclipse, peak coverage will occur at 9:44 pm.

Late summer heat is expected to build across the area Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures will be around 90° with mostly sunny skies aside from a few afternoon clouds. Winds will generally be light from the south and humidity will be just high enough to make it feel muggy.

The late summer surge will linger into the upcoming weekend as a cold front approaches. Whether or not the cold front will have enough gas to clear the area remains to be seen. But, it should help boost cloud cover a bit along with an uptick in rain chances. This will help to blunt the heat a little over the weekend and into early next week.

The pattern into next week is unclear at this stage with some of the guidance suggesting a favorable pattern for cooling while other guidance maintains the hotter than normal pattern.
