St. Louis officer dies after I-70 crash

ST. LOUIS – An officer is dead after a car struck him on eastbound I-70 near Grand Boulevard Sunday morning. He was setting flares at an accident scene. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has identified the officer as David Lee.

The injured officer, an 18-year veteran of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, was rushed to an area hospital after the crash in critical condition. In the presence of family and friends, he passed away on Sunday afternoon.

“We are devastated over the loss of our beloved colleague. Please pray for Officer Lee’s family, friends, and the entire SLMPD and St. Louis community,” states St. Louis Police in a Facebook post .

The driver remained at the scene and police say they have a suspect in custody. Accident reconstruction teams shut down the highway to collect evidence.
