Sunday, September 22nd Forecast: Fall starting on a soggy note

    By Matt Hefner,

The weather these last few days has been anything but fall-like. After three straight days with over 90-degree temperatures, we followed it up with another day in the upper 80s. Thankfully, cooler weather is coming.

Summer will finally let go of its grasp as the warmest temperature I have forecasted for the entire workweek is only 76 degrees. While it will be cooler, it may not be a quiet week.

I am expecting a soggy start to the week, as well as, a soggy finish. For tonight, thunderstorms will develop across the majority of the Ozarks. Heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and dime to quarter-sized hail will be possible.

Rainfall totals can be impressive. Most places can pick up 0.5-2 inches between now and when rain concludes Monday night/Tuesday morning.

We will clear things out for Tuesday and hold onto calm weather for Wednesday. Wet weather can return as early as Thursday as a cut-off low-pressure system primes the atmosphere for precipitation chances. Additionally, long-range model runs suggest hurricane development in the gulf towards the end of the workweek.
