Monday, September 23 forecast: Fall feel may come with tropical connection later this week

So long summer and hello fall… and rain! We’ve checked most of the boxes in this summer-to-fall transition, we just have to knock back the humidity and that will happen as a cold front finally clears the area tonight.

The cold front is still generating a few thunderstorms ahead of it in the Eastern Ozarks with cool and showery conditions behind the front. Most areas will be dry by morning with temperatures cooling off some as drier air slips in.

Tuesday will come with a risk of patchy fog early on. Temperatures will remain mild with a nice breeze out of the northwest. Look for more clouds than sun, and maybe even a few light showers or sprinkles. Most of the day and the area should remain dry though.

Wednesday should be quiet and mild as an upper-level storm parks itself just south of the Ozarks. This will be a major player later this week, but for Wednesday just look for a few isolated showers.

The interaction between a potential Hurricane Helene and the upper-level low will be interesting to watch. These two features may work together to generate rainy days to end the week and cool temperatures as the remnants and tropical moisture get drawn west into the circulation of the upper-level low.

The potential is there for at least a few inches of rainfall out of the storm combo. The rain could also come with gusty winds and chilly late-September temperatures.
