Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will be another busy time for skywatchers, and the moon will be the star of the show. The last quarter moon will be visible, and the moon and Mars will be getting cozy.

On September 24, the last quarter moon occurs at 1:50 p.m. A quarter moon is sometimes called a half-moon because only half of the moon is illuminated by the sun. The moon will rise around midnight and set around noon. Look for the half-moon high in the sky before sunrise.

Along with viewing the half-moon before sunrise, the best time to see Mars will be before sunrise. Beginning in the middle of the night, you should be able to look east-southeast and see Mars about five degrees to the lower right of the moon.

According to TimeandDate.com , Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible overnight.
