    Springfield motorcycle driver dies after hitting curb in parking lot

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man from Springfield has died in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in an Ozarks Technical Community College parking lot, according to Springfield police.

    Jonathan L. Koontz, 31, was driving a Honda Navi motorcycle south on Hampton Avenue, crossed Central Street and entered the Ozarks Tech parking lot when the crash occurred.

    SPD says as Koontz was driving in the parking lot, his motorcycle hit a curb, sending him through landscaping before hitting a retaining wall.

    Koontz died at the scene of the crash. His family has been notified of his passing.

    This is the 17th fatal crash in Springfield in 2024.
