Elkland man dies after head-on crash north of Springfield

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — An Elkland man has died after a crash north of Springfield.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash happened on Highway 65 five miles north of Springfield, just before 10 p.m. on Sept. 24.

MSHP says 79-year-old Harold R. Williams was southbound in the northbound lanes when he hit an oncoming car.

Williams was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where he later died. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

MSHP says driver impairment is not suspected at this time.

This is Troop D’s 81st fatality for 2024.
