KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs will look to fill a void on offense after Rashee Rice suffered a leg injury against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The injury occurred early in the first quarter after Patrick Mahomes threw an interception and tried to make a tackle but accidentally ran into Rice’s knee after he forced a fumble.

Rice missed the rest of the game and was carted off the field. Andy Reid described the injury as “not good.”

The severity of the injury and how long Rice will miss time is still unknown. He is still receiving tests to determine the extent of the injury.

With Rice likely out for the for foreseeable future, the Chiefs will be without their top two wide receiver targets, leaving their offense in a precarious situation.

The Chiefs next moves are still unclear. They have three receivers on the practice squad they could try to bring up or they could try to acquire another receiver through trade or free agency.

Andy Reid said he still has to speak to Brett Veach in regard to their next course of action.

A name that has been floating around is Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper. He would be a viable and affordable option for the Chiefs.

According to Spotrac, the Browns converted all but $1.21M of WR Amari Cooper’s 2024 salary into a signing bonus. He would likely become the Chiefs top WR target.

On the season, he has 16 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns. While Cooper does give the Chiefs another weapon, he hasn’t been sure-handed so far to start the season with six drops in four games.

There also some receivers available via free agency including Michael Thomas and Hunter Renfrow.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5.

The Chiefs could try to stick it out with what they have but it seems likely they will take a look at the receiver market as they pursue a three-peat.
