DALLAS COUNTY, Mo. — With the Dallas County area experiencing outages Friday, Dallas County 911 operators turned to a new kind of technology for emergency responses.

In a Facebook post , Dallas County 911 says they and software company Carbyne partnered to successfully deliver a 911 call on Friday, October 4, to their communication center through Starlink.

The county says regular emergency calls could not go through because of an outage with a local exchange carrier.

“Technology is always evolving and part of our mission at Dallas County 911 includes keeping pace with it,” said Dallas County 911 on Facebook. “We’re proud of and grateful for the dedication and commitment from the teams at Carbyne, Starlink, and PCnet and for their help as we navigated strategically through this process to add a reliable form of redundancy for emergency call processing and network connectivity in Dallas County, Missouri.”

The operation is part of a process that will help improve emergency services while dealing with the challenges associated with rural internet services.
